May is Asian, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

“A celebration of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. A rather broad term, Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia (New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the Solomon Islands), Micronesia (Marianas, Guam, Wake Island, Palau, Marshall Islands, Kiribati, Nauru and the Federated States of Micronesia) and Polynesia (New Zealand, Hawaiian Islands, Rotuma, Midway Islands, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands, French Polynesia and Easter Island)." https://asianpacificheritage.gov

May Day best known as International Workers' Day, should be everyday it’s a moment to celebrate the working-class contributions as we rally for better labor rights, immigration overhauls, and other causes around social and economic equality in hopes to an equitable approach to much need systemic changes.

-Calling All Bread Lovers:

Farmstead Bread delivers fresh baked bread every Friday at 6:15 PM but is currently on winter break.  Empire Bakery delivers fresh baked bread every Wednesday and Friday. Ladybread Bakery delivers fresh baked bread every Wednesday & Saturday.

- Coos Head Food Co-Op is now offering curbside pickup Monday thru Friday excluding Wednesdays. All orders must be submitted between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM and pick up is between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. If you would like to utilize our curbside pickup, please send all orders via email to outreach@coosheadfoodcoop.org

- Our May recipient for the Round-Up for Change Program is Operation Rebuild Hope. Operation Rebuild Hope has a mission to provides innovative housing solutions and support services for Veterans and their families.

Their vision is for Every veteran in rural Oregon will have a safe and stable environment to live in and will feel engaged with and supported by the community.

- May 4th your local Coos Head Food Co-op is proud to co-sponsor our local Farmers Market brought to by the Coos Bay Farmers Market – The Farmers Market takes place weekly on Wednesdays on Central Avenue in Coos Bay.

- May 6th First Friday Wine Walk, come down to sample an array of Organic and Sustainably crafted wines along with samples from our Grab & Go Deli.

- Tea Tuesday will be relaunching and we will be sampling herbal loose-leaf teas at the Co-op from 10-4 these samples will be pulled from our Bulk Tea Department.

- In celebration of National Bike Week, your local Coos Head Food Co-op will be raffling off a donated Bike from one of our Co-op Owners. We will be showcasing Front Street Community Bike Works for the whole month of May - they are located at 791 Front Street, Coos Bay, OR 97420.

Front Street Community Bike Shop is operated entirely by volunteers. They accept bike and bike parts donations, and they offer a variety of restored bikes for sale at low cost. They also offer a safe and inclusive DIY shop space to work on your own bike and learn bike building skills.

- May19th, 2022, The Food and Nutrition group will be meeting virtually at 2 PM every 2nd Thursday of the month to join the meeting please reach out to Stephanie Polizzi via email at Stephanie.Polizzi@oregonstate.edu

- May 20th, 2022, Coos Head Food Co-op will be hosting our Plastic Round-Up, we will be collecting clean and adhesive-free #2’s, #4’s, and #5’s.

- May 21st, 2022, Coos Head Fermentation Society: Are you a fermenter? Do you have an interest in Fermentation that you've been wanting to explore? Taking Place every 3rd Saturday FROM 7-8:30 pm Location: the Co-op 353 S. 2nd Street Registration Required: https://forms.gle/Xvpkz38xxoVrm7Lz5

- On May 26th, 2022 at 5:30 PM, Coos Bay Public Library and Coos Head Food Co-Op would like to invite the community to join in on the virtual cooking segments "Community Cooking with the Co-Op." We introduce community members to cooking with ingredients that they aren't familiar with and encourage stepping outside of their comfort zones. Together, we can engage each other and our community via zoom, while unable to meet in person. Virtually we can all cook, laugh, learn and eat together.
